They say, it takes two to tango. So it seemed appropriate that when D’Lea Martens and Priscilla Pritchard joined forces to start their own company, they called it Tango Strategy.

The two met in 1997, while working for the Sterling-Rice Group, a consulting & advertising firm in Boulder, Colorado. Priscilla’s role focused mainly on new product development, brand positioning and consumer insights; D’Lea’s focused on marketing plan strategy, communication strategy and advertising. While their work-life rarely crossed paths, they became fast friends due to their passion for careers, family, food, cooking and travel.

D’Lea decided to leave the corporate world in 2004 to have a little more control over her life, and to reconnect with her family and herself again. It was during this time that she cleaned closets, acted in an improv group, volunteered at her kids’ school, and oh, yeah, went to Buenos Aires and got turned on to Argentine culture. And the tango. After a few weeks of intense and cathartic dancing, D’Lea went back home with a renewed energy. She found herself calling old contacts with an eagerness to take on freelance business projects.

In early 2006, Priscilla also left the consulting firm in search for something she could really devote her life to. There had to be more than flying around the globe and then coming home to an empty house, now that her two daughters were away at college. She, too, was looking for her passion. She dabbled in some of her favorite hobbies during this time: she made bouillabaisse; she brushed up on her French, Italian and German; and she went hiking with her black lab, Bailey. But what really got her excited was seeing the fun and rejuvenation D’Lea was experiencing in the business world. Priscilla decided to join her, to take a risk and form a new venture.

In 2008 Priscilla and D’Lea asked Nicole Callahan to join them in their strategic dance as the third partner to the Tango Strategy adventure. Nicole jumped right in from a corporate job in financial innovation.  She brought fresh ideas, fresh insights, but was completely familiar having been trained and tested by both D’Lea and Priscilla in a previous position.

The three have been tangoing ever since, so to speak––a partnership that thrives on intense creativity, a non-stop exchange of ideas and a lot of laughter. And, like the lively dance known and loved the world over, Tango Strategy can help create passion for your brand in the marketplace.
